Graeme Riley has joined the LFChistory team and will provide us with data that will enable us to go into much further detail on the site. This will all be revealed in the forthcoming months.
Riley has devised a method that shows how much every single Liverpool purchase since the beginning of the Premier League is worth in today's market. Earlier transfers are not included as it was impossible to trace them all so an average transfer value was not present for seasons previous to the 1992-1993 season. Beneath the list of players is a breakdown of each season.
The current transfer purchase price is calculated as follows:
1. Take the actual price of the player in the season he was bought.
2. Divide the value paid by the average transfer value for the season he was bought, then multiply by the average transfer value of the current season – this effectively inflates the player’s value to current terms.
3. As we do not yet know all of the January 2012 values, for the sake of consistency everything is taken back to 2010-11 values.
Example:
Djibril Cissé cost £14.5m in July 2004 – so his current value is 14,500,000 / 2,172,559 x 4,906,739 = £32,748,347.

Dean Saunders and Mark Wright who were bought in the 1991-1992 season one year previous to the start of the Premier League would both easily make the top 50 if they were included. Saunders, who was bought for 2.9 million pounds would be valued around 24 million and 2.2 million Mark Wright would be around the 18 million mark.
It is frightening when you realise that Liverpool spent in current value a total of 21 million pounds on Bernard Diomede, Jean Marc Ferri, Gabriel Paletta and Sean Dundee who played a combined total of 20 games for the club!
The legendary Sami Hyypia doesn't even make the top 50 list which shows how much of a coup it was to get him for 2.5 million pounds in 1999-2000 with a current transfer value of only 7,277,000 pounds.
