Manchester United 2 - 0 Liverpool

Opposition goals

Notes

  • - Pat O'Connell missed a penalty against Elisha Scott on 48'
  • - Bookies had laid 7-1 against United winning 2-0. Before long the Football league conducted a formal inquiry into the game and a commission came up with the findings that the game had indeed been fixed by players from both teams. Four Liverpool players; Sheldon, Miller, Fairfoul and Pursell along with three United players; Turnbull, West, and Whalley were all found guilty.
    - Incidentally Bob Pursell was the one who conceded Liverpool's penalty in the 48th minute by handling the ball deliberately. Patrick O'Connell missed the spot kick by some distance.
