Luke Chambers

Left-back Chambers has been at Liverpool since age six. He was on the first-team's pre-season tour to Thailand and Singapore in the summer of 2022 and signed a new contract as the club was delighted with his progress. Chambers had worn the captain’s armband on many occasions for the U-18s in the 2021/22 campaign. Chambers was an unused substitute in the 2-2 draw at Fulham on the opening day of 2022/23 and scored twice in the UEFA Youth League group stages. He spent the second half of the season on loan at Kilmarnock, starting thirteen of the fifteen matches he was available for. Chambers made his debut for Liverpool's first team in a 3-1 win against Leicester in the League cup at Anfield on 27 September 2023 and made three appearances in the Europa League. He was loaned to Wigan Athletic in January 2024 for the remainder of the season. He made eighteen appearances as a centre back, left back or left midfield, scoring once.

A further season long loan was agreed for 2024/25 with league one Wigan Athletic, with Chambers telling the club website: "I love everything about the club - the fans, my team-mates, the manager and the backroom staff - and it was an easy choice. It’s a really exciting project for the season and hopefully we can push on for promotion". Chambers started the first ten games of the season at left-back, but was then troubled by a back injury. After making his final appearance of 2024 in early October, he returned to Liverpool for specialist treatment and rehabilitation. Although surgery was not required, Wigan manager Shaun Maloney warned that the problem would keep him out for months rather than weeks. Chambers eventually returned against Cambridge United on 8 March 2025, ending an absence of more than five months, but featured only briefly before suffering a recurrence. He returned to Liverpool again in April and missed the remainder of the campaign.

The setback also affected almost the entire first half of the 2025/26 season. Chambers remained in rehabilitation at Liverpool and did not return to the pitch until 17 December 2025, when he played the final half-hour of a friendly against Nice Under-21s. Having spent most of a frustrating 14-month period unavailable, he joined Championship side Charlton Athletic on loan on 21 January 2026 to rebuild his fitness and regain regular first-team football. Chambers went on to make 18 league appearances for Charlton during the remainder of the season, finally putting together an extended run of matches after his prolonged injury problems.
