Player Profile

"Dick" Allman was Burslem Port Vale's top scorer in the 1904/05 season with eight goals in 27 second division matches as his club struggled at the wrong end of the table. He joined Reading in the Southern league in May 1905, scoring 17 goals in 63 matches. He made short stops at Portsmouth and Plymouth Argyle before heading north to Liverpool in July 1908. Allman's one and only appearance in the Football League for Liverpool came at home to Bristol City on 13 March 1909. Just for the record, the visitors won the game 2-1.

After drifting from one club to another Allman finally found a home in the Southern league with Croydon Common making 113 appearances and scoring 34 goals. He enlisted in the Army in 1915 and served in France, but still made 32 appearances for the club during wartime. Allman remained settled in Croydon, where he later worked as a tramway conductor. He died in 1943.
