Player Profile

Inside-left Bruton came into his own at Blackburn after a slow start to his career. He failed to make an impression at Southampton and only made seven second division appearances from 1922-1926. He joined amateur side Peterborough & Fletton United, who was later replaced by Peterborough, and then played two years for Raith Rovers in Scotland. Finally his career blossomed at Blackburn Rovers where he scored 23 goals in 38 first division appearances from 1929-1931. He lost his place in Rovers' starting line-up in the 1931/32 season and following his move to Liverpool he made a couple of appearances in February 1932. His debut came away to West Ham in a 1-0 defeat in the League and he also played in the FA Cup defeat by Chelsea a week later at Anfield. Bruton made six more appearances the following season with his only goal for the club being at Chelsea on 27 December 1932. At the age of thirty he moved to amateur side Leamington Town in the Birmingham Combination league. Once described as a "human tank".
