Player Profile
Brother of Preston North End's "Invincibles" legend and England international, Bob Holmes. John was a defender who made 44 league and FA Cup appearances in the 1890s. Nineteen of those came in his debut season 1895/96, the year that the club won the second division Championship for the second time. He made 25 appearances over the next couple of years as Liverpool consolidated their first division place after an absence of just one year from the top-flight.
