Player Profile

Ronald Jones made five appearances in Liverpool's forward line just before World War II. He scored on his debut in a 2-0 win against Manchester City at Anfield towards the end of March 1938. That was his only goal for the club but one he could be very proud of as he scored past the legendary Frank Swift, who made 376 League appearances for City. Swift was killed in the Munich air disaster on 6 February 1958 after reporting on Manchester United's game against Red Star Belgrade. Jones replaced right-winger Berry Nieuwenhuys three times during the 1938/39 season but they were the only matches that the South African missed that year and Jones never figured in Liverpool's first-team again.

According to many sources Jones was killed in action in World War II but that was a huge misunderstanding. Our source is his family who says he passed away on 20 March 2010.
