Player Profile

American-born Lester was the first player born outside the British Isles to play for Liverpool. He was a noted amateur sprinter with a time of 10.5 seconds for the 100 yards. He only played twice for Liverpool's first team as an outside-left, the first occasion being towards the end of the 1911/12 season for an away match at Bradford City, which the visitors won by two goals to nil. His only other appearance came the following season as part of the team that lost 4-1 at Sheffield United on 14 October 1912. When at Oldham he was moved to full-back. He utilised his speed to go up-field but his final touch on the ball was said to lack "heartiness". Lester returned to the USA in the 1920's.
