Player Profile

A goalkeeper who was picked for the 'Test Match' against Bury at the end of the 1894/95 season after William McCann and Matt McQueen had shared the goalkeeping duties during the regular season. Unfortunately, Liverpool lost this vital match played at neutral Blackburn and dropped down into the Second Division. Whitehead figured twice more in 1895/96 with completely contrasting fortunes, a 5-1 home thrashing of Newcastle United being followed by a 5-2 defeat at Newton Heath, later to become Manchester United.
