Player Profile

Wilkie was a towering defender at 5 ft. 11 in. (191 cm.), who made his debut on the opening day of the 1895/96 season, in a 3-2 away win at Notts County. In all he played in 20 of the 30 second division fixtures that season, which included his only Liverpool goal, against Leicester Fosse in November 1895. The left-back established himself in the First Division in 1896/97, making 25 consecutive League appearances before being replaced by Billy Dunlop for the last seven matches of the season. However, Wilkie only played thirteen times over the next two seasons and his final game for the club came in a first division fixture at Bury on 19 November 1898.

On the south coast of England Portsmouth Football Club was formed to replace the defunct Royal Artillery Portsmouth club and was elected straight into the first division of the Southern League in the 1899/1900 season. Wilkie became one of Pompey's pioneers and had a successful career at the club, playing 178 matches from 1899-1904.

When his playing days were over, Wilkie emigrated to Australia where he became a fire station officer in Perth. He died in 1932 and was buried at Karrakatta Cemetery.
